In TrustUS, an Advancement is a specific type of Transaction entry that represents a previous transaction that the agency has made, without utilizing the case's Trust Account. Advancements usually happen before a Trust Account is linked to the case when an agency made a payment to the surrogate/egg donor out-of-pocket. Therefore, when a Trust Account is linked to the case, these advancements need to be reimbursed by the attorney by making a disbursement to the agency.

Each advancement has the following properties:

  • To: the recipient of the advance payment, which means that the agency made a payment to the recipient out-of-pocket.
  • Date: the date of the payment.
  • Amount: the amount of the payment.
  • Category: the category of the payment.
  • Description: the description of the payment, usually explaining the reason or purpose of the payment.

After a Trust Account has been linked to a case, the attorney can reimburse the advancements of that case by approving those advancements. After approval, the corresponding amount will be deducted from the case's Trust Account. If the attorney user is using the Standard Plan, TrustUS will automatically make the transfer to the agency's account. If the attorney user is using the Free Plan, they will need to make the transfer on their own.
