In TrustUS, each case represents a surrogacy or egg donor case. Only an agency or attorney user can create a case.

Each case has the following properties:

  1. Case Members. Usually, in a surrogacy case, its members would consist of 1 Agency user, 1 Attorney user, 1 Intended Parent, and 1 Surrogate. Likewise, for an egg donation case, its members would consist of 1 Agency user, 1 Attorney user, and 1 Egg Donor. It is also possible to add multiple of the same type of user to a case, although it is not common and not recommended. Also, Attorney users can be added after the creation of a case.
  2. Trust Account. The Trust Account of a case represents how much balance the case has. An attorney can add more balance to a case by adding a Manual Entry in the Requests tab. The surrogate/egg donor can also request reimbursements from the case's Trust Account. If such a request, which is called a Transaction, is approved by both the agency and the attorney, corresponding funds will be deducted from the case's Trust Account.
  3. Advancements. This section is a log of the payments within a case that the agency paid in advance, and will later be reimbursed by the attorney. An agency user can add an advancement from the detail page of a case. An attorney user can later reimburse the advancements within a case, and corresponding funds will be deducted from the case's Trust Account.
  4. Start Date. Represents the start date of a case.
  5. Minimal Retention. Minimal retention is an amount that marks the minimum amount of funds within a case's Trust Account. When the funds in a case's Trust Account are lower than the case's Minimal Retention amount, TrustUS will send a warning to related users.
  6. Stage. Each case can have the following stages: Pending, Matched, In Medical Clearance, In Legal Clearance, In Transfer Preparation, Post-Transfer, IVF Graduates, Post-Delivery, Completed, Others. The agency or attorney users can update the stage of a case whenever the status of the case changes.
  7. Type. There are two types of cases: Surrogacy Cases and Egg Donor cases. This must be specified when creating a case and is unchangeable after creation.

If a case is created by an agency user, the case's status will be "Pending". It is not permitted to request a transaction within this case when a case has "Pending" status.

After an attorney is added to a case, the attorney user can approve the case. After the attorney's approval, the status of the case will be changed from "Pending" to "Matched", thus allowing transactions within this case.

If a case is created by an attorney user, the attorney user can manually select a case status, excluding the "Pending" status. Therefore, the created case will automatically allow users to request transactions.

Attorney users are also able to archive a case. An archived case will be removed for all users, along with any impending transactions. The "Archive" action is IRREVERSIBLE, meaning that the user cannot "Unarchive" an archived case.
